Doris Elaine Bloom Glantz, 86, Lewiston
Our mom, grandma, sister, aunt and dear friend, Doris Elaine Bloom Glantz, went to be with the Lord Saturday morning, July 30, 2011, after a long and valiant struggle with emphysema. Mom was born April 26, 1925, in Valleyford, Wash., to Albert and Violet Craddick Bloom.
Her family resided in Peck, where she was raised and attended schools.
She married Roy Wood April 6, 1942, and they had one son, Gerald. They later divorced.
On Nov. 13, 1946, Mom married Bert Decicio and they had a daughter, Susan. Daddy was a "railroad man" and his work took us from the railroad camp in Rudo, to Ferdinand, then to Lenore, Almota, Reubens and finally Culdesac. Daddy passed away in 1965. After living in Lewiston for two years, Mom moved to eastern Oregon.
Mom married Howard Glantz June 20, 1970, in Baker, Ore. They eventually moved to Las Vegas, where Mom went to work for Ethel M's Candy Company. We loved touring Ethel M's knowing that Mom was "on the line" boxing those delicious gourmet chocolates. Howard passed away in 1989, and Mom returned to Lewiston to be near family.
As her health began to fail, she took up residence at Juniper Meadows and finally at Life Care Center, where she passed away.
While living in Lenore, Mom was a faithful member of the Lenore Willing Workers, the oldest service organization in the state of Idaho. Mom enjoyed gardening, and while in Reubens our family raised strawberries on a half acre of land. She was a member of the Reubens Community Club. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles, and her grandchildren brought her great joy.
Mom is survived by her son, Gerald Wood of Reubens; her daughter, Susan Fagan of Pullman; her sisters, Ruth Watson of Lewiston, and Beverly Langley and Ed of Nacogdoches, Texas; and her brother, Don Bloom of Bothell, Wash.; as well as seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, all who cared very deeply about her and she about them. Her brother, Bernard Bloom, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home in Lewiston.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Tina's Hope for a Cure, P.O. Box 754, Clarkston, WA 99403. All funds are used for research to find a cure for cystinosis.
